“China is at the core of our Group’s growth strategy”, Xavier Durand-Delacre, President of Arkema Greater China, said. “With the increasingly important strategic role of China and Asia in our global market, the expanded R&D Center in China will strengthen the technical capabilities of the Group and promote its strategic development, thereby helping our clients move forward and achieve better performance.”

Arkema China Research and Development (R&D) Center in Changshu

The Arkema China R&D Center is located at the Arkema Changshu site, the largest industrial platform of Arkema in the world. Opened in 2013, the Arkema Changshu R&D Center (CRDC) includes several application laboratories, a large polymer processing facility with best-in-class equipment, a process research facility to run pilot scale experiments, and a training center for customers. Its greatest strength rests in its employees, mostly Chinese scientists with high level of education, from Bachelor of Science to PhD or post-doc.

The CRDC is dedicated to providing new solutions and products that fulfill customers’ expectations, in markets as diverse as automobile, batteries, water filtration, sports, coatings, and electronics. Among other laboratories, the second phase of Arkema CRDC includes a composite facility dedicated to Arkema’s cutting edge thermoplastic composites technology. These thermoplastic composites, based on carbon or glass fibers and proprietary Arkema polymers such as the Elium® resin, will serve markets including wind power, automobiles and aeronautics. The CRDC expansion also includes new facilities for waste water and gas treatment processing, in line with the major societal expectations of China today.

The expansion project has doubled the surface of laboratories and offices in CRDC, to accommodate the steady growth of its headcount since the opening in 2013. With this expansion, Arkema CRDC will speed up the development of local products and solutions for customers in China and Asia in fast-growing markets such as batteries, photovoltaics, electronics, packaging, transportation, cable, sports and coatings.

Standing among the most innovative chemical manufacturers in the world, Arkema provides its customers with excellent technology and innovative solutions, and has been ranked among the Top 100 Global Innovators for seven consecutive years. In Asia, with the Changshu R&D Center, Arkema stands close to the local customers and brings them efficient support.
