This project is in line with Arkema’s targeted growth strategy in adhesives, based on cutting-edge technologies which perfectly complete Bostik’s existing offering for the construction market.
The brand new Arkema 4 was launched in the water this morning outside the Lalou Multi Composite shipyard in Port Bloc in the Gironde region, after one year of painstaking work. This Multi50 is the result of close and intense technical collaboration between the Arkema Group and Lalou Multi, partners for now 8 years. With recyclable resins, new adhesives, clean energy..., many innovative materials and technical solutions complement bold architectural choices. Adorned with blue and grey with a touch of red, the new Multi50 is now ready in the run-up to the initial tests and a swift and efficient handover, thanks to a busy and varied sports program.
Arkema announces the start-up of a new world-scale industrial adhesives plant in Japan. Those new capacities will enable Bostik to serve its Japanese customers in the continuously growing markets of diapers, hygiene, packaging, labelling, transportation and electronics. Arkema announces an innovative and long-term partnership with Nutrien Ltd, the largest integrated agricultural company in the world, for the supply of anhydrous hydrogen fluoride to Arkema’s Calvert City (KY) site. This project has many advantages as it secures a competitive access to anhydrous hydrogen fluoride, the main raw material for fluorine chemistry, it supports the growth of fluoropolymers in the attractive segments of water treatment, electronics and batteries, and it offers greater environmental protection than more traditional production processes.
April 28 is World Day for Safety and Health at Work. In the special context of the prevention and control of COVID-19, under the theme of “Safety on the way”, Arkema mobilized its production sites to carry out various characteristic themed activities of World Day for Safety and Health at Work to improve employees’ safety protection awareness and further ensure production safety.
The combined annual general meeting of Arkema’s shareholders was held on 19 May 2020, at the Company’s headquarters in Colombes, France, under the chairmanship of Thierry Le Hénaff, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
The Group’s results are in line with expectations, in a first quarter marked by the coronavirus outbreak in Asia and its spread to Europe in March. Stripping out the coronavirus impact, the Group’s performance, in a less favorable economic environment than in 2019, was supported by the resilience of Specialty Materials and, in particular, strong growth of the Adhesive Solutions segment. Moreover, the balance sheet and liquidity levels remain very solid.

In response to the COVID-19 epidemic and the health situation, Arkema has decided to repurpose a production line in order to manufacture, starting today, 20 tons of alcohol-based solution per week to be distributed free of charge and as a matter of urgency to hospitals in France.

Recently, the mutual Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) recognition visit of China and Turkey Customs was held at Sartomer (Guangzhou) Chemicals Company Limited, affiliated to Arkema Group. The visit will provide important evidence for AEO certification’s level and quality, and establish a solid foundation for finally signing the mutual AEO recognition agreement between China and Turkey Customs. Sartomer (Guangzhou), as a benchmark enterprise certified by high-level AEO in China, was eventually selected as the representing company involved in the visit, after careful filtering and multiple field visits by Nansha Customs, Guangzhou Customs, and the General Administrations of Customs, China (GACC). The visit means further recognition of the company’s AEO management system since it obtained the certification.

On November 15 Arkema inaugurated, in the presence of Thierry Le Hénaff, the Group’s Chairman and CEO, and Hervé Morin, President of the Normandy Region, a new Global Center of Excellence for 3D Printing within its Cerdato Research & Development Center in Serquigny, Normandy (France). Arkema and the Normandy Region intend this new center of excellence dedicated to additive manufacturing based on high-performance polymers, to be of benefit to companies and training organizations in the region, as part of a collaborative initiative striving for swift adoption of these new production methods.
Initiated in September 2018, the construction of the new Multi50 Arkema 4 is progressing on schedule, and the first components are taking shape in the new infrastructures of the Lalou Multi shipyard in Verdon-sur-Mer (33). Designed by Romaric Neyhousser in close cooperation with Lalou Roucayrol and the future skipper Quentin Vlamynck, this latest generation trimaran will have different architectural lines from its predecessor. It will be more versatile, and also benefit from ergonomics adapted to its skipper and focused on performance. Another major asset: just like the Mini 6.50 Arkema 3, it will incorporate innovative solutions drawn from collaboration between the Research & Development and Business hubs of the Arkema Group and Lalou Multi. This prototype is due to be launched in spring 2020.
This summer, Arkema successfully brought on stream a new 90,000-ton acrylic acid reactor at its Clear Lake, Texas site to support the growth of its North American customers in the superabsorbents, paints, adhesives and water treatment markets.
In partnership with Agiplast, a pioneer in the manufacturing and regeneration of engineering plastic compounds, Arkema’s Technical Polymers business announces a new program to recycle high performance polyamides and PVDF fluoropolymers.
Arkema announces the proposed divestment of its Functional Polyolefins business to SK Global Chemical, a major chemicals player in South Korea and a subsidiary of SK, the large South-Korean corporation. With this project, Arkema continues its shift towards specialty chemicals and advanced materials.
