On July 2, the global leading specialty chemicals company Arkema held the opening ceremony of its China Research and Development (R&D) Center Phase II at Changshu, Jiangsu. The expanded R&D Center will further improve Arkema’s technical capabilities, support industrial activities in Asia, and help Asian customers to innovate in their respective markets. Mr. Xiaoming Zhou, Deputy Mayor of Changshu Municipal Government, Mr. Axel Cruau, Consul General of France in Shanghai, Mr. Xavier Durand-Delacre, Senior Vice President of Arkema Asia Pacific and President of Arkema Greater China, Mr. Erwoan Pezron, Global President for Technical Polymers and Mr. Denis Bortzmeyer, Arkema Changshu R&D Director attended the opening ceremony.
Bostik, the specialty adhesives business line of Arkema, will be the official partner for smart adhesives at the iconic cycling event. Now in its fourth year of sponsorship, Bostik will use the competition to boost brand visibility around the world.
To support the strong worldwide demand in ultra-high performing powders for industrial applications, in particular in the coatings, composite and 3D printing markets, Arkema is to expand its global production capacity at its Mont site (France) by more than 50%. This investment of around €20 M will come on stream in the second half of 2019.

On May 28, global leading specialty chemicals company, Arkema, officially unveiled its flagship store at Alibaba 1688.com, as an important step to deploy its digital strategy in China. The opening ceremony was held in Alibaba’s Hangzhou HQ. Arkema has announced the proposed acquisition by the Bostik-Nitta joint-venture of the industrial adhesives of Nitta-Gelatin Inc., as well as the construction of a new world-scale adhesives plant in Japan. These operations will enable Bostik to supply its Japanese customers in the buoyant nonwoven markets for hygiene applications and in the packaging, labelling, transportation and electronics industrial markets.
Effective 1st June 2018, Marie-José Donsion is joining Arkema as Group Chief Financial Officer, replacing Thierry Lemonnier who is taking retirement. Marie-José Donsion will also sit on the Executive Committee.

Effective April 1st, 2018, or as existing contracts permit, Arkema is increasing by 6 to 9% the prices of its Kynar® fluoropolymer product ranges in Asia Pacific. This price increase is required due to ongoing increases in material costs, as well as the investments that Arkema continues to make in R&D, compliance, and capacity expansion to accompany its customers’ growth.
To complement its major project in the bio-based polyamide 11, Arkema announces a 25% expansion in its global polyamide 12 polymers production capacities to support its customers’ strong demand in Asia.

Arkema will increase fluoropolymer (Kynar® PVDF) capacity at its Calvert City plant in the United States by some 20%. The expansion is fueled by strong demand in the new energies and water management markets as well as in more traditional applications (chemical process industry and high performance cables). In line with the strategy presented at its recent Capital Markets Day, this investment, scheduled to start mid-2018, further supports Arkema’s ambition to accelerate the development of its advanced materials, one of the key pillars of its future growth.
At 2:00am EDT September 4, the Crosby Fire Department and unified command has determined it is safe for residents to return to their homes. The 1.5 mile evacuation zone around the Arkema Inc. facility has been lifted and is no longer in effect. Arkema thanks the unified command for their hard work and professionalism to ensure the safety of all during the post-Hurricane Harvey period.
At approximately 2 a.m. CDT, we were notified by the Harris County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) of two explosions and black smoke coming from the Arkema Inc. plant in Crosby, Texas. Local officials had previously established an evacuation zone in an area 1.5 miles from our plant, based on their assessment of the situation.
