Expertise in water
Industrial and domestic water demand has risen sharply everywhere, necessitating careful management of available water resources, both upstream and downstream of consumption.
Thanks to our expertise and extensive product line, Arkema is present across the water supply system, including treatment, distribution, recycling, and decontamination.
We offer reliable, innovative techniques for every step of the water treatment process prior to consumption. Chlorine, Bactivel® bleach, chlorine dioxide, sodium chlorite, and hydrogen peroxide eliminate dissolved organic matter during the initial preoxidation step. Oxidation using hydrogen peroxide (Albone®, Valsterane®) and ozone, followed by activated carbon treatment (Acticarbone®), removes undesirable tastes and odors, micropollutants, and toxic pollutants. Finally, chlorine, bleach, chlorine dioxide and sodium chlorite are all used for disinfection, which serves a dual bactericidal-protective purpose for water distribution systems.
Plastics offer competitive solutions for water supply, distribution, and storage. Their technical performance is exceptional, allying flexibility, impact strength, abrasion resistance, and chemical resistance to all types of water and soil.

The strength, stability, and flow properties of Rilsan® coating have prompted many municipalities to choose it for their drinking water systems or wastewater treatment equipment.

Geomembranes, which are protective tarps (EVA or PVC), meet all safety, tightness and chemical resistance criteria.
Arkema offers an extensive range of products and formulations for industrial water applications, tailored to the specific operating conditions and technological environments, from upstream preparation of industrial processes to wastewater treatment. For example, Liozan® activated hydrazine hydrate prevents rust from forming inside boiler pipes.
Our Liozan® hydrazine hydrate is used in dispersants, thickeners and detergent aids, rust treatment for boiler pipes, and corrosion treatment for conventional and nuclear power plants. Sodium chlorite and bleach are used to purify drinking water and as disinfectants and oxidizing agents for municipal and industrial wastewater treatment. And WAC® aluminum aids in the production of drinking water and water purification. In addition, water treatment filters are made with Cristamid® polyamides, while high-temperature pipes and fittings use Lacovyl® PVC.
Our Norsocryl® cationic monomers and acrylic acid are ingredients in flocculants, which are employed by treatment facilities to remove pollutants from wastewater streams.
